Foundry Refining System Achieve Optimal Steel Composition With Our High-Performance Slag-Refining Solution
Refining agent is also called slag-refining agent. As we all know, the five chemical components of steel, C, Si, Mn, P, and S must be controlled within the specified range. Traditional electric furnace steelmaking must add CaO to remove S and C during rough refining. Si and Mn must be added for reduction reaction during refining, and C must be appropriately increased to make the chemical composition of molten steel meet the specifications. Therefore, refining agent must be added for slag refining.
The advantages of refining agent in steelmaking can be summarized as follows:
1. Deoxidation: Deoxidize and modify the steel slag to reduce the FeO and MnO content in the slag and reduce the oxidizability of the steel slag. According to the requirements of the steel grade and the amount of refined slageag added, the oxygen in the steel should be reduced by more than 20-30ppm.
2. Desulfurization: It is basically a calcium aluminate slag system. This refined slag has a strong desulfurization ability. CaO reacts with sulfur to generate calcium sulfate or calcium sulfite into the slag, thereby reducing the sulfur content in the steel. Under normal circumstances, the desulfurization rate can reach more than 30-60%.
3. Foaming: The refined slag is fast in slag formation and has good foaming and arc submerged performance. The foaming mechanism is mainly that the carbon of the electrode or a small amount of carbon in the slag reacts with FeO, MnO, SiO2, etc. in the slag at high temperature to produce bubbles such as CO.
4. Removal of impurities in steel: The refined slag system with reducing properties and mainly composed of calcium aluminate, due to stirring at high refining temperature, the impurities in the steel float up and are adsorbed by the refined agent.
5. Aluminum: Aluminum is the main final deoxidation of steel. The refined agent contains highly active and chemically active aluminum, which can reduce the amount of oxygen in the steel.
6. Others: For steels that are sensitive to nitrogen content and steels that require very low nitrogen content, special refining agents should be selected.
